Should Fortune bless with halcyon scenes
My days in future life, And give me, Mary, the dear means
To make thee, love, a wife ; I'd dwell where peaceful streamlets stray,
Or through the meadows roam, And view thy smiles for ever play Around the angler's home.
Then go with me and share my cot
No dangers round it foam; The world and trouble are forgot With thee, and this our home.
I'd rather win the river's prize
Than scenes of gay resort; To me this trout of varied dyes
Is richer than a court. Oh, and if oft my basket's lined
With spoils my sport has won ; What joy thy partial smiles to find, Pure as the setting sun.
